Presented by the Hawaii State Department of Transportation (HDOT) and the General Contractors Association of Hawaii (GCA), this symposium will feature an overview of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), legal requirements of the IIJA, and information on IIJA funded projects. There will be ample time for Prime/DBE networking opportunities.

Overview of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act
On November 15, 2021, President Biden signed the AGC-backed Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) into law. The IIJA is the most significant infusion of investment in our infrastructure since the enactment of the Interstate Highway System in the mid-1950’s. It provides market opportunities for transportation contractors, heavy contractors, building contractors and utility contractors. And, it demonstrates to our existing and future workforce that there is sustainable work in the years to come. Alex will provide an overview of what is included in the IIJA, an update on implementation of the law, and what issues and challenges contractors should be aware of.

Building Opportunities for Hawaii
Over a five year period that began in 2022, Hawaii has been slated to receive a total of over $1 billion for transportation infrastructure through the IIJA. The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) has been working on the increase in formula funding for Airports and Highways and in discretionary grants for Harbors. Director Ed Sniffen will share insight on where these funds will be used - i.e., project plans, contracting opportunities, etc. - to build opportunities for our local businesses, large and small.
