Description
In partnership with AGC of California, the GCA is presenting the Construction Planning & Scheduling Certificate Program. Participants will learn critical planning and scheduling concepts, methods, and skills. This is a 4-unit 12-hour program, delivered in 4 sessions lasting 3 hours a piece. Enhance your resume by earning your Construction Planning & Scheduling Certificate.
Target Audience: Anyone in construction on a project team or involved with planning or schedules. Young professionals and Emerging Leaders Program members qualify for a 10% discount on registration fees.
Participants who complete the 4-units receive a digital credential, certificate, and hard hat sticker.
UNIT 1 – Principles & Process, April 18, 11:00 am – 2:00 pm PT | 8:00 am - 11:00 am HST
Essential planning principles and core scheduling concepts, methods, and tools
Participants are introduced to essential planning principles and core scheduling concepts, methods, and tools. You will come away more confident in participating in the planning and scheduling process.
UNIT 2 – Milestones & Measurement, April 25, 11:00 am – 2:00 pm PT | 8:00 am - 11:00 am HST
Increase your planning and scheduling skills to get better results on your projects
Building on the lessons of Unit 1, participants will gain a deeper understanding of how to use milestones and “float” to manage and measure project progress. They will learn the basics of pull planning as a team, including a hands-on simulation. They will also learn how to identify and resolve issues before they grow into delays.
UNIT 3 – Predictable Work Flow, May 2, 11:00 am – 2:00 pm PT | 8:00 am - 11:00 am HST
Build a reliable scheduling process using the Last Planner® System
Based on Lean Construction principles, The Last Planner® System (LPS) is becoming more widely used in the construction industry. It was developed to help project teams meet their schedule milestones and improve productivity by making work predictable.
UNIT 4 – Advanced Methods and Tools, May 9, 11:00 am – 2:00 pm PT | 8:00 am - 11:00 am HST
Skills and knowledge to better manage your projects and avoid costly delays
In this final unit, participants will learn the basics of handling schedule delays and recovery from both a contractual and practical point of view. They will be introduced to advanced scheduling methods including 4D. And finally, learn how to build a sustainable scheduling program for their organization.
AGC of America recognizes the Planning and Scheduling Series as qualifying for continuing education hours toward the renewal of AGC’s Certificate of Management-Lean Construction (CM-Lean). Each hour of educational content is equal to 1 hour of CE credit. Attendees may earn up to 12.0 hours of CE credit by attending the entire virtual series.
About the Instructors
David MacKay, Lean Construction Planner & Consultant (Milestone Lean Consulting)
David MacKay is the founder of Milestone Lean Consulting. He helps teams and organizations put Lean thinking to work to design and build better, faster, and cheaper. David MacKay has over 30 years of hands-on experience working on a wide range of projects. With a strong background in planning and scheduling, David supports all aspects of the Last Planner System® from coaching a single project to organization-wide implementation. He provides training and support to organizations on their lean journey, including transformation plans, basic Lean training, Value Stream Management, 5S, Continuous Improvement, and Lean Problem Solving. He is an approved AGC Lean Construction Education Program facilitator, Lean Construction Institute trainer, frequent trainer and presenter at LCI Congress, and has served several years on the Los Angeles/Orange County LCI CoP core team.
Worked on a wide variety of projects, including power generation, materials handling, process, petro-chemical, theme parks including Disney’s California Adventure and Universal Studios Hollywood, student housing, research, and laboratories, medical, airports, conference centers, museums, parking, hotels, condominium towers, apartments, senior housing, historical renovations, sports facilities, schools, and others. These have included a variety of delivery methods including a substantial number of design-build projects.
