In partnership with AGC of Colorado, we offer you this upcoming three-unit series Superintendent Training Bootcamp held in a live-virtual format. In this series, participants will learn about scheduling considerations for construction as well as critical building methodologies, structural and building envelope systems, and major scopes of building systems, including HVACS, plumbing and MEP.


The Essentials of Field Management / Superintendent Bootcamp is designed to expand the knowledge of construction professionals who are looking to grow in their career. Ideal candidates for this course include field and project engineers, forepersons, assistant superintendents and anyone looking to gain a thorough understanding of the commercial construction building process. Sessions include a deep dive into building a project from the ground up.


Unit 3: Finishes and Building Systems

November 7, 12, 14, 19, 21, 26, December 3 - Online or In-Person
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00PM - 5:30 PM MT | 11:00AM - 1:30PM HST

Overview
In these seven sessions, students will learn about major scopes of building systems, including HVAC, plumbing and MEP as well as fire sprinklers, alarms and smoke control. The intricacies of specialty building types, including healthcare facilities, kitchen and labs will also be covered. The installation of tile, stone and flooring finishes will conclude this Unit.

Session 1: HVAC, Plumbing and MEP

HVAC
Common HVAC systems are explained, as well as the types of projects that would utilize each system. Variations of source equipment and the pros and cons for each system will also be discussed.

Plumbing
This session aims to introduce students to the intricacies of plumbing. Instruction on plumbing materials and fixtures, as well as backflow prevention techniques will be provided, along with hot water requirements and an introduction to waste, vent, and storm systems.

MEP Rough-In
This session will cover key considerations for MEP rough-in.  Students will be exposed to how MEP varies by project, the coordination that is required for MEP rough-in, the sequencing that must occur, how to schedule MEP rough-in and understand how the different types of buildings impact MEP rough-in.

Session 2: Specialty: Kitchens, Laundries, Science Labs, Bathrooms

Kitchens and Laundries
This session will give students an overview of special equipment and coordination required for kitchen, laundries and other specialty projects. Emphasis will be on identifying where to find the information needed, and the focus necessary, to minimize rework and to accomplish the job efficiently.

Science Laboratories
In this course, student will learn about how to manage science laboratory projects. Primarily students will focus on fume hoods and considerations for the installation of fume hoods in projects.

Toilet, Bath, Gym, FRP
Toilet & Bath, Gym, and FRP gives specific information into the proper installation of products according to product type, purpose, and ADA compliance requirements.

Session 3: Fire Sprinklers, Fire Alarms, and Smoke Control

Fire Sprinklers
This session provides students with an overview of building fire sprinkler systems. This session is designed to give students the ability to scope out each system for its intended use. Students will also learn about the different components of the system, different types of systems, and testing the system.

Fire Alarms and Smoke Control
This session provides the learner with an overview of building systems fire alarms and smoke control. This session is designed to give students the ability to scope out each system for its intended use.

Session 4: Healthcare Facilities and Infection Control

Healthcare Facilities
In this session, students will learn about the special considerations for projects involving medical gas. The different types of med-gas, med-gas monitoring systems, med-gas design and procurement, med-gas scheduling and installation and the commissioning and certification process for med-gas systems will be covered.

Infection Control
This session is designed to provide students with key considerations when engaged in a project focused on infection prevention. This session will focus on Infection Control awareness, risk assessments, materials and equipment, and other key considerations for infection prevention and awareness.

Session 5: Tile & Stone, Flooring Finishes

Tile & Stone
This session will focus on key factors that essentially apply to every floor covering and finish commonly used in the industry, including polished concrete, terrazzo, tile, wood, engineer, VCT, vinyl, resinous, and carpet.

This course will focus on key factors that essentially apply to every floor covering and finish commonly used in the industry, including polished concrete, terrazzo, tile, wood, engineer, VCT, vinyl, resinous, and carpet.

Session 6: Hardscapes / Landscapes

This class will cover considerations and requirements of Hardscapes and Landscapes on a project. Identifying erosion control processes and solutions will also be covered. Subgrade and ADA consideration for the general public.

Session 7: Closeout

This class will enhance the students understanding of the timing and steps necessary to secure a TCO (Temporary Certificate of Occupancy). As well as, the steps to secure the CO (Certificate of Occupancy).
