In partnership with AGC of Colorado, we offer you this upcoming three-unit series Superintendent Training Bootcamp held in a live-virtual format. In this series, participants will learn about scheduling considerations for construction as well as critical building methodologies, structural and building envelope systems, and major scopes of building systems, including HVACS, plumbing and MEP.

The Essentials of Field Management / Superintendent Bootcamp is designed to expand the knowledge of construction professionals who are looking to grow in their career. Ideal candidates for this course include field and project engineers, forepersons, assistant superintendents and anyone looking to gain a thorough understanding of the commercial construction building process. Sessions include a deep dive into building a project from the ground up.

Unit 2: Core & Shell

Live Sessions, Tuesdays and Thursdays, April 2, 4, 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, 2024, 3:00 pm – 5:30 PM MT

Overview
In this Unit, students will learn about contracting considerations, including structural systems, and building envelope systems.  Additionally, there is an emphasis on proper weather barrier installations, glass and glazing systems and masonry. An overview of major equipment which includes HVAC, elevators and escalators will also be presented.

Session 1:Cast-In-Place Concrete and Post Tensioned Concrete

Cast-in-Place Concrete
Students will learn about the different types of CIP applications and how the applications have different elements and considerations.  Students will also learn about safety, quality, schedule and inspection considerations as well as how weather impacts CIP projects.

Post-tensioned Concrete
Students will learn about what post-tensioning of concrete is and some of the common applications of post-tensioned concrete.  Students will also learn about the structural design elements of PT as well as key design, schedule, and inspection considerations.

Session 2: Structural Steel / Pre-Cast Concrete

In this session students will learn about the specific considerations for structural steel, including steel procurements, safety, inspections, scheduling, crane operations, steel erection, and as-built drawings.

Session 3: Wood Structures, Modular Systems and Roofing Systems

This class will explain the sequence of wood framed structures.  Preconstruction considerations and vetting of subcontractors.  Define modular cold-formed steel and it’s advantages. Go over different system types, Prescient, FRAMECAD, and Infinity CAD.

Session 4: Stucco, EIFS, Exterior Metal Panels and Cementitious Siding

This class will explain the advantages and disadvantages of several different siding types as well as installation methods. The types covered will be Stucco, EIFS, Metal Panel, and Cementitious siding.

Session 5: Proper Weather Barrier Installation, Dry-In and Glass and Glazing Systems

Weather Barriers
This session will describe the weather barrier concept, materials, manufacturers products and their practical applications.  Participants will learn how different products are designed and how they should be installed correctly to meet the design intent of the architect team.


Glass and Glazing Systems
Students will learn about the different types of glass used in commercial construction along with the critical considerations for the different types of glass. Glazing systems will be examined and students will learn about the critical considerations associated with these systems. Students will also be exposed to considerations for
punched window openings and borrowed lites/side lites.

Session 6: Masonry

This course covers the general topics of masonry related to typical projects with a focus on the aspects of planning and directing the successful outcome required.

Session 7: Major Equipment: HVAC, Elevators, Escalators

HVAC
In this course, students will learn about the systems, equipment and installation involved with HVAC systems. Specifically, this course will focus on the various pieces of distribution equipment. An overview of issues that may arise, as well as closing out the project will also be discussed.


Elevators
This course covers the pre-installation, installation, and post installation of elevators. Students will receive an overview of the role of the subcontractor as well as precautions that need to take place while installing elevators.

Escalators
In this course, students will learn about the key considerations when engaged in supervising an escalator installation project. Students will first look at procurement considerations and coordination efforts required for escalator installation. Then they will focus on the installation process, inspection process and the required finishes for an escalator project.

AGC/AGC Members - $650 per unit
Non-Members - $850 per unit

Cancellation Policy
A full refund will be given if notification is received by five business days prior to the course start date. If a cancellation is received with less than three business days before the class, or if registrant(s) chose not to attend, the registration fee is forfeited.

Low Enrollment
GCA reserves the right to reschedule or cancel any course within 48 hours f the scheduled date due to low enrollment. Attendees will be notified by email of any changes or cancellations.
